Shoreline Master Program Update

Shoreline Water Picture
Mason County is updating its Shoreline Master Program (SMP), which regulates land use and development within 200 feet from rivers, lakes, and marine shores. Mason County has over 709 miles of shoreline that are protected by the Washington State Shoreline Management Act (SMA) and by the Mason County SMP.

UPDATE STATUS – Planning Advisory Commission Review

The first draft of the Shoreline Master Program created in January 2013 resulted in many comments and many revisions.  Click Here for the comment matrix.   The Planning Advisory Commission (PAC) completed their public workshops (47 total) and will hold public hearings on the PAC drafts (below) sometime in or near June (TBD). Click Here to view the minutes for the Planning Advisory Commission meetings

After the PAC’s public hearings, the PAC will provide a final draft that will be recommended to the County Commissioners.  The County Commissioners will then hold one or more public hearings before the final drafts are adopted and sent to Washington Department of Ecology for approval.
