A Quick Lesson in PLASTICS
Do you find all the recycle symbols confusing? There are MANY different types of plastics, of which, only a few are recyclable. The chart below shows some of the more common recycle symbols you will see. Please check your plastics for a raised, triangular symbol with a number in the center. Compare your numbers to the chart below.

Green means GO for it, save these for the blue recycle bins. Red means STOP, these items are NOT recyclable in Mason County. Plastic # 1 and # 2 in bottle form can be recycled in Mason County.
Plastic # 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are not recyclable in Mason County.

GO - Polyethylene Terephalate Ethylene
Common uses for PETE plastic include soft drink, juice, water, detergent, and some household cleaner bottles. May also be used in some peanut butter and cooking jars.  # 1 plastic in bottle form are recyclable in Mason County.
GO - High Density Polyethylene
Common uses for HDPE plastic include milk and water jugs, bleach bottles, detergent and shampoo bottles and some household cleaner bottles.  # 2 plastics in the bottle shape are recyclable in Mason County.  Colored # 2 jugs and bottles are okay. Motor oil bottles are #2 plastic but they are NOT recyclable. Please throw well drained motor oil bottles in your regular trash.
STOP - Polyvinyl Chloride
Common uses for PVC plastic include window cleaner, cooking oils, and detergent bottles. Also used for some peanut butter jars and water jugs.  # 3 plastic is NOT recyclable in Mason County.  Please throw it way with your regular trash.
STOP - Low Density Polyethylene
Common uses for LDPE plastic include plastic bags and grocery sacks, dry cleaning bags and flexible film packaging. Also some bottles.  # 4 plastic is NOT recyclable in Mason County and needs to be included with your regular trash.
STOP - Polypropylene
Common uses for PP plastic include caps, disks, syrup bottles, yogurt tubs, straws and film packaging.  # 5 plastic is NOT recyclable in Mason County and needs to be included with your regular trash.
STOP - Polystyrene
Common uses for PS plastic include meat trays, egg cartons, plates, plastic forks and spoons, carryout containers and clear food trays.   # 6 plastic is NOT recyclable in Mason County.  It needs to be thrown away with your regular trash.
STOP - Other
Includes resins not mentioned above or combinations of different plastics. # 7 plastic is NOT recyclable in Mason County and needs to be included with your regular trash.
