The Mason County Juvenile Detention Facility is a subdivision of the Mason County Juvenile Court. The primary function of the facility is to provide a secure environment wherein juveniles are held accountable for their behavior and the community is protected. Personal responsibility for one's behavior is emphasized and ensured through the active supervision of juveniles.

The Detention operation meets the basic physical and emotional needs of residents, creating an environment of respect and concern. Juveniles have access to a variety of treatment programs that target individual needs and are linked to community-based treatment programs. Moreover, youth in detention are required to be involved in the Detention School Program. This program operates nearly year round. There is summer school in Detention.
