  • Skokomish River Levee Repairs Needed - The Mason County Board of County Commissioners is requesting Federal assistance from the Natural Resources Conservation Service Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) Program to restore damages sustained to a private levee on the Skokomish River in Mason County by the storms of December 5th to December 13, 2015.   • 2016 Water and Sewer Utility system Rate and Fee Increases - Per Mason County resolution #146-08, all water and sewer rates fees and charges, etc. at the Mason County owned and operated Rustlewood, Beards Cove and North Bay Case Inlet water and sewer systems will increase by 0.4 % for the 2016 calendar year.   • Free Christmas Tree Drop Off and Recycling at Shelton Transfer Station and
    Belfair Drop-off Facility
    - Mason County announces free Christmas tree recycling available at the following locations during January 2016: Shelton Transfer Station located at 501 West Eells Hill Road in Shelton, business hours are Monday through Saturday from Sam to 4pm and Belfair Solid Waste Drop Off Facility located at 2001 NE Sand Hill Road in

  • Emergency Road Closure - St Andrews Dr - Mason County Public Works Department has begun emergency road repairs on St. Andrews Drive located in the Lake Limerick Community. A cross culvert under the roadway at approximately milepost 1.72 (near the intersection of Way to Tipperary) failed during the recent storm event and resulted in a road closure from approximately 1. 70 to 1. 73.   • Mason County Burn Ban Lifted Effective TODAY - The Mason County Fire Marshal’s Office in partnership with the Mason County Fire Chiefs’ Association and the Washington Department of Natural Resources, has determined that with cooler, wetter weather conditions Mason County is lifting the ban on outdoor burning.   • AMENDMENT to Mason County Burn Ban - Due to recent rains and cooler temperatures, EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 4, 2015 the Mason County Fire Marshal’s Office, in partnership with the Mason County Fire Chiefs’ Association, is  relaxing the current burn ban and allowing campfires in time for the Labor Day weekend.   • Public Works Department now accepting credit/debit card payments - The Mason County Public Works/Utilities & Waste Management Department is pleased to announce that credit/debit card payments will now be accepted at the Eells Hill Transfer station for garbage disposal. Credit/Debit card transactions related to other department services, such as water/sewer bills or permits fees are accepted at the main office front counter located at 100 W Public Works Drive, Shelton, WA 98584 and by phone.   • REVISED Mason County Burn Ban - The Mason County Fire Marshal's Office in partnership with the Mason County Fire Chiefs' Association, has determined that current weather conditions within Mason County have created substantial fire dangers and that there is a need to enact restriction on outdoor burning to all lands regulated by Mason County.   • Cooling Centers - With the prospect of extreme hot weather conditions, Mason County Public Works in cooperation with several other agencies will open cooling centers beginning Thursday, July 2, from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday – Friday, and open until the weather cools. (07/02/2015)
  • County Allows Wilson Recycling to Stay Open - The Mason County Commissioners want to emphasize that Mason County did not close down Wilson Recycling. Mason County has received numerous comments about the unfortunate closure of Wilson Recycling located on Brockdale Road. It must be noted that in order to go back to being a recycling center, WA State Department of Ecology has permitting requirements that must be met. (07/01/2015)
  • Learn Before You Burn - Due to potential fire dangers during the extreme dry weather, the Mason County Board of Commissioners is encouraging caution this holiday by asking residents to voluntarily restrict their use of fireworks. Take advantage of legal public firework displays, and limit any private use of fireworks to just the 4th of July. (06/29/2015)
  • Extreme Heat Advisory Issued - Shelton, WA – The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for hot weather for parts of the Puget Sound area this weekend. Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 80s to mid 90s on Friday through Sunday. (06/26/2015)
  • Shellfish Beach Closures - Shellfish samples from Hood Canal have been found to contain elevated levels of marine biotoxins that cause Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning {PSP). As a result, the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) has closed the beaches from the Jefferson/Mason County line to just past Sisters Point to shellfish harvest. (06/25/2015)
  • Mason County Burn Ban - The Mason County Community Development Director, as acting Fire Marshal, and in partnership with the Mason County  Fire Chiefs’ Association, has determined that current weather conditions within Mason County have created substantial fire dangers and that there is a need to enact restriction on outdoor burning to all lands regulated by Mason County.
