- Site Preparation and Septic System Design
Typically, the designer arranges to have test holes dug and prepares a septic design. The designer will complete your On-site Sewage System Application Form and the On-site Sewage System Design Form and will submit the materials along with the permit fee to the Public Health office.
Washington State Department of Licensing licenses septic system designers. Click here to get a list of Licensed Septic System Designers that typically work in Mason County.
- Public Health Site Inspection and Design Review
Public Health department staff inspects the site and reviews the design for your septic system.
Once the design is approved, copies of the approved design and approval letter are sent to you and the designer.
- Select an Installer
The installer must be certified in Mason County. Click here to get a list of Mason County Certified Installers.
- System Installation
The installation fee is paid prior to installation of the system. The installer must have copy of the approved design with approval stamp on every page of the design. The approved design must be on site during installation.
The installer will call the Public Health office to request a final inspection.
- Final Approval
The installer or designer will prepare a Record Drawing (Asbuilt) that is submitted to the Public Health office. When Public Health staff approves the installation, a copy of the record drawing along with an On-Site Sewage System User’s Manual will be sent to the owner.
Note: Homeowners are allowed to design and install their own on-site septic systems as long as the residence served by the system is their primary residence and is not on the marine shoreline.
Self- installing requires some additional steps. Please contact Public Health staff prior to installation of the system.
