Map Mason Map Viewer - Help

What do all of the different buttons do?

This button toggles the overview map on and off.

Select this tool and drag a box around your area of interest to zoom most quickly. For slower zooming simply select the tool and click on the map.

Draw a box with this tool to control zoom distance. A tiny box will zoom out a great distance. A large box will zoom out a small distance. For slower zooming simply select the tool and click on the map.

Zooms to the full view of the map. This may or may not be the original view.

Zooms to the previous view. Use this instead of the 'Back' button on your browser. (only goes one level)

Drag the map to move to adjacent areas without changing scale.

Select and then click on the map to get information about the selected feature(s) on the active layer.

Click the button and then define the first point by clicking on the map. As you move the cursor away from the first point the distance will be displayed at the top left. Click again to define the second point. Repeat for each segment. You must wait for each command to be completed before clicking another point. Use cues from your browser to monitor this. Click another tool to end measuring and the Clear Selection tool to reset the values. Distances are measured in miles unless you change units (below).

Click the button and select a new distance unit. Then click the set units button on the pop-up. This will affect the scalebar, measuring, and buffering. The default value is feet.

Select an object by clicking once or drawing a rectangle within it. All objects in the active layer that are touched by the rectangle will be selected.

Select an object by choosing points and then creating a line. All objects in the active layer touched by the line will be selected. Wait for a red dot to appear before choosing the next point.

Clears selected features (like the salmon shading on a selected parcel) and returns a fresh map.

Click this button, enter a title for your map, and click "Create Print Page". A new browser window will appear with a map layout. Use the print button on your browser.

Click the button to access the Help page.

How do I find information on a parcel?

There are three different ways to find information on a parcel. You can do a search by parcel number, a search by address, or zoom in to the parcel and identify.

Searching by parcel number:

  • Start the Map Mason Viewer and click on the Search tab on the left side of the page.

  • Type in the 12-digit parcel number for the parcel you are searching for and click GO.
  • A new map window will pop up. This window contains information on the parcel. Click on the VIEW MAP link to zoom the map window to the parcel.

Searching by address:

  • Start the Map Mason Viewer and click on the Search tab on the left side of the page.
  • Type in the number and street, leaving off any directional or suffix information (123 Main, not 123 N Main St).
  • A new map window will pop up. This window contains information on the parcel. Click on the VIEW MAP link to zoom the map window to the parcel.

Zoom to a parcel:

  • Click on the Zoom In button. Using your mouse, click and drag a box around the area you want to zoom to. Zoom and Pan until you find your parcel.

  • Click on the Identify button and click in the parcel you want information on. A new window will open up with information on the parcel.

How do I find information on adjacent parcels to the one I searched for?

Select the (identify) button from the tool bar and click on the adjacent properties one at a time. The information for identified properties will appear in a new window one at a time.

Note: If you don’t close the new window, when you click on the next property the information will appear in the same information window and you will need to bring the information window to the front to see it.

How do I find information on map layers other than parcels?
  • Make the layer you are interested in active (see directions below).
  • Select the identify tool and click on the feature you want information about. A pop-up window will appear to display the information.

Selecting or Activating Map Layers:

You can choose from many available map "layers", to see just the combination of map information that you want to see. There is a default configuration, but you can change it. In order to see some layers better, you can always turn other layers off by clicking in the square box next to the layer name in the Layers list on the left side of the screen. You can also turn layers on by clicking this box. A check in the box means the layer will be visible, empty means that layer will not be visible. Changes should automatically become effective, but if they don’t, click the Refresh button at the top or bottom of the Layers list.

Just as the square box makes the layer visible, the round box makes it the "active" layer. Most of the tools work on the "active" layer only. To make a layer active, click on the round dot next to it. Active = Inactive = Only one layer can be active at a time.

Select one of the predefined areas and your map will zoom to that area.

Make sure that whole area you want to print is contained in the view window.

This screen will pop up

Title the map what you would like.

Then select the layout of the page. Portrait will print vertical and Landscape will print horizontal.

Then select Create Print Page

The print page will then pop up.

This picture shows a landscape layout.

To print this page select File from the menu bar.

Then select Page Setup.

How do I go to a specific X, Y coordinate (Latitude / Longitude)

If you have coordinates for a point in latitude and longitude, (decimal degrees or degrees minutes and seconds), or northing and easting (stateplane), you can zoom to the point and label it on the map. To do this, click on Zoom To Point (under the scale bar on the map). A new window will pop up.

If you have Northing and Easting coordinates, they must be in StatePlane Washington South Feet coordinates. Enter the coordinates in the appropriate boxes. Enter a label for the point, and click GO! The point will appear on the map if it is located within Mason County.

Alternately, if you have latitude and longitude coordinates in decimal degrees or in degrees, minutes and seconds, enter them in the appropriate boxes, enter a label, and click GO! The point will appear on the map if it is located within Mason County.

Hint: You can only plot one point at a time. Once you type in new coordinates, your previous point will disappear from the map.
