Mason County is updating its Shoreline Master Program (SMP), which regulates land use and development within 200 feet from rivers, lakes, streams, and marine shores.  Mason County has over 709 miles of shoreline that are protected by the Washington State Shoreline Management Act (SMA) and by the Mason County SMP.

The Planning Division of the Department of Community Development issues shoreline Permits. For information regarding shoreline permits or shoreline exemptions, please, call the Permit Assistance Center at (360) 427-9670.

Thank you for your comments on the Draft Shoreline Inventory and Characterization Report dated June 2011. 

Our consultant, ESA, is currently responding to comments on the report from the public, as well as from our Joint Technical Advisory Committee (JTAC) and Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC).  In addition, the County has been waiting to receive additional technical information from the State Department of Ecology related to channel migration zones (CMZ) and other watershed data.  It is anticipated that the report will be revised and completed by MAY 30th 2012.  The revised document and map folio will then posted on this web page at the time of completion.
